Time Trials and Surge for Success Swim-a-Thon - Saturday, 10 June 2023
Hello Torpedo Families,
On Saturday, we are swimming our Time Trials and having our Surge for Success Swim-a-thon.
Date: Saturday, June 10, 2023.
Location: Lackey High School Pool, 3000 Chicamuxen Rd, Indian Head, MD 20640.
Important Times:
Arrival: 7:15 a.m.
Warm Ups: 7:35 and 7:45 a.m.
Meet Begins: 8:00 a.m.
Concludes: 12:00 noon
Team Communications/SwimTopia:
If you have not already done so, please download the SwimTopia app and create a login for your family. This will be our main forum for team communications.
Each week, you will be asked to do 3 things in SwimTopia by noon Wednesday:
1.Indicate whether your swimmer(s) will be participating in Saturday’s meet.
2.Indicate which job your family member(s) will fill to run the meet.
3.Indicate which item you would like to donate to sell at concessions (home meets only).
Coach Mel must seed each meet and submit her entries to the Data Managers by Thursday evening, so she needs your participation input by Wednesday noon.
Swimmer Attendance:
Here’s how you register whether your swimmer(s) will participate in each meet in SwimTopia:
1.Sign in to SwimTopia.
2.Hover over the “Meets & Events” tab at the top, in red.
3.Click “Sign-up Calendar.”
4.Click “Meet Entry” to the right of the meet, the green button.
5.Under your swimmer(s) name, click “Edit.”
6.Edit your swimmer’s status to “Attending” or “Not Attending.”
7.Hit “Save.”
Job Sign Up:
Job sign up in SwimTopia works similarly to swimmer attendance. From the Sign Up Calendar, which you navigated to above:
1.Click “Job Sign Up” to the right of the meet, the other green button.
2.Under your adult’s name, click “Sign Up for Jobs.”
3.Tick the box next to the job you would like to fill.
4.Click “Save Assignments,” blue, below.
Grandparents, aunts, uncles, big brothers or sisters, or family friends are all welcome to fill meet jobs on your family’s behalf. Feel free to sign “you” up in SwimTopia with the intention of one of them actually filling the role..
Concessions Donations Sign Up (home meets only):
We will not sell any concessions at Time Trials, so no donations are sought this week. We will, however, be grilling burgers and dogs for everyone for free. So, we will need a grill master and “concessions” volunteers to help hand them out.
Know Before You Go:
The Lackey HS pool is our home pool, so you are all familiar with it:
Park in the pool parking lot, as you always do.
Family members are invited to sit in the mezzanine, overlooking the pool.
Swimmers are encouraged to use the limited seating on the pool deck, behind the ropes, as swimmers with wet suits and feet are not permitted on the mezzanine for safety reasons.
Bring shade canopies and chairs if you wish to set your family up outside on the patio. You may also use your own chairs behind the ropes on the pool deck.
Bring your own drinks, breakfast, and morning snacks.
The team will provide free hamburgers and hotdogs to all as swimmers complete their Swim-A-Thon laps.
Upon arrival, have your swimmer check in with the Coach to get their race assignments.
Parent Volunteers: check in with Leigh Sylvain, your Meet Manager, about your meet job.
Suits and Caps:
Your swimmer(s) will need a cap for Time Trials on Saturday, and for all our future meets. These can be ordered through our Online Store in SwimTopia. Our order for custom caps (with your swimmer’s name on them) has already been placed. At this time, plain, non-custom caps are available. These are $10 apiece.
Kim Israel, our Apparel Manager, will give you your caps at practice this week, if she has not already done so. You may also purchase caps from Kim at practice this week for $10 cash (without ordering through SwimTopia).
We will have some at Time Trials for last-minute purchase, also.
Please get your swimmer a competition suit. Parents will obtain their swimmer’s suit individually. This year’s suggested suits are the same as last year’s. They are available through SwimOutlet.com.
For guys, they are the Launch Splice Endurance + Jammer Swimsuit or the TYR Men’s Alliance Splice. Both of these are mainly navy with a red stripe. For the girls, they are the Piper Splice Wide Strap One Piece Swimsuit, the Piped Polyester Thin Strap One Piece Swimsuit, or the Hydrolast Piped Thin Strap One Piece Swimsuit. Each of those are mainly navy with red trim.
If you prefer not to get one of those suits, get the navy, red and/or white suit of your choice.
Friday Night Meet Set Up:
We will need all families who can to help set the pool up on Friday evening for Saturday morning’s meet. This will take place during 2nd evening practice. We will ask the 1st evening practice parents to stay after to help the 2nd practice parents with set up, if possible. Morning swim parents are welcome to come help with evening set up if you are able to. All parents need to help tear down after the meet and put everything away.
Go Torpedoes!
Leigh Sylvain
