IHST @ PGC - 17 June 2023

Hello Torpedo Families,

On Saturday, we will be torpedoing Prince George’s Council swim team!

Date: Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Location: 9450 Cherry Hill Road, College Park MD 20740

Important Times:

Arrival: 7:15 a.m.

Officials’ Briefing and Timers’ Meeting: 7:30

Warm Ups: 7:35 – 7:50 a.m. (Torpedoes)

Meet Begins: 8:00 a.m.

Concludes: 12:00 noon

Team Communications/SwimTopia:

If you have not already done so, please download the SwimTopia app and create a login for your family. This will be our main forum for team communications.

Each week, you will be asked to do 3 things in SwimTopia by noon Wednesday:

1. Indicate whether your swimmer(s) will be participating in Saturday’s meet.

2. Indicate which job your family member(s) will fill to run the meet.

3. Indicate which item you would like to donate to sell at concessions (home meets only).

Swimmer Attendance:

Here’s how you register whether your swimmer(s) will participate in each meet in SwimTopia:

1. Sign in to SwimTopia.

2. Hover over the “Meets & Events” tab at the top, in red.

3. Click “Sign-up Calendar.”

4. Click “Meet Entry” to the right of the meet, the green button.

5. Under your swimmer(s) name, click “Edit.”

6. Edit your swimmer’s status to “Attending” or “Not Attending.”

7. Hit “Save.”

Job Sign Up:

Job sign up in SwimTopia works similarly to swimmer attendance. From the Sign Up Calendar, which you navigated to above:

1. Click “Job Sign Up” to the right of the meet, the other green button.

2. Under your adult’s name, click “Sign Up for Jobs.”

3. Tick the box next to the job you would like to fill.

4. Click “Save Assignments,” blue, below.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles, big brothers or sisters, or family friends are all welcome to fill meet jobs on your family’s behalf. Feel free to sign “you” up in SwimTopia with the intention of one of them actually filling the role.

We would like to see each family providing one volunteer per meet, on average.

Concessions Donations Sign Up (home meets only):

This is an away meet, so we will be partaking of PGC’s concessions on Saturday.

Know Before You Go:

Park anywhere in the upper or lower lots.

Pool Entrance is through the front gate under the covered pavilion.

There are a few chairs but no shade, so bring both for your family.

IHST families will set up in the fenced, grassy area immediately to the left after entering the pool gates.

PGC will offer concessions for purchase. Cash only.

It is imperative that we all arrive on time as our swimmers only have a 15-minute warm-up window and officials and timers have 7:30 meetings to attend.

Swimmers: upon arrival check in with Coach to get your race assignments.

Volunteers: check in with Leigh Sylvain, Meet Manager, about your meet job.

Depending upon how the meet progresses, there *may* be a guppy race. If you have any little brothers or sisters who are not yet on the team but who would like to swim in it, bring suits for them.

Meet results will be posted on the white wall to the left of the snack bar.

Suits and Caps:

Your swimmer(s) will need a cap for each meet. I believe most everyone has these now. If you still need one (or need another one), order through our Online Store in SwimTopia. At this time, plain, non-custom caps are available. These are $10 apiece.

Kim Israel, our Apparel Manager, will give you your caps at practice this week, if she has not already done so. You may also purchase caps from Kim at practice for $10 cash (without ordering through SwimTopia).

We will have some at the for last-minute purchase, also.

Swimmers will wear their meet suits to each meet. (See last week’s emails for details).

Additional Notes:

Great work making Time Trials and our Swim-a-Thon a resounding success, athletes and volunteers! Conducting our meet at an indoor pool was a new challenge for us but we adapted, improvised and overcame! Hooah!

Pool rules state our swimmers can get back in the water 30 minutes after the last seen lightning. If practice is going to be delayed due to lightning, we will notify you via SwimTopia alert. Be on the lookout for those if it looks thunderstormy on the way to practice.

If you ordered team towels, they have arrived, they look terrific, and you can get yours from Leigh at practice!

Special shout out to our team’s highly-decorated Class of 2023 scholar-athletes: Abbey Vanasse, Elizabeth Seton High School Salutatorian; Kaylee Alvey, Lackey High School Salutatorian; and Devon Bragunier (former Torpedo), LaPlata High School Valedictorian.

Go Torpedoes!
