Officials Training Information

Our sport has a unique approach to hosting swim meets. Unlike other sports, we rely 100% on the incredible efforts of our dedicated PARENT VOLUNTEERS and PARENT OFFICIALS. We do not bring in any outside officials. Instead, it is the commitment of our parents that ensures the smooth and successful execution of every meet. Your invaluable contributions truly make our swim team a shining example of unity and support.

Join our incredible team of parent volunteers and parent officials, and make a meaningful impact on your child's swimming journey. We can't stress enough how vital your involvement is to the success of our swim meets.

To ensure that we always have a strong group of officials on deck, it’s important that we have new volunteers getting certified in these important positions. We warmly invite you to participate in our recertification or certification programs. Don't worry if you're new to officiating; we provide shadow training on deck and share officiating responsibilities during meets, so you won't have to handle the entire event alone.

Please register for the Stroke and Turn Officials Training below if you haven't been certified yet. If you're already a Stroke and Turn Certified official, we encourage you to register for the Ref/Starter Training. Your dedication and support mean the world to our Indian Head Torpedoes Swim Team!

From Princemont:

Stroke and Turn Training We are excited to announce that PMSL will be utilizing the new USA Swimming officials' training course this year for Stroke & Turn. As in the past, this course can be used to become or recertify as a USA-S certified stroke and turn if you are interested. PMSL decided to use the course since we follow USA-S rules and since it provides you the opportunity to complete the course anytime you are available.

Courses must be completed and documentation filed with PMSL by Saturday, June 8th to qualify to work the 1st weekend of PMSL meets. After the first weekend of meets, courses must be completed, and documentation filed by the Wednesday prior to working your first Saturday meet. The courses are completely FREE

Please note that you will first need to create a logon with USA-S (USA-Swimming). There are TWO courses that must be completed to become Stroke & Turn certified:
1. Foundations of Officiating
2. Stroke & Turn Certification Please use the attached instructions to access the Stroke & Turn courses and establish your USA-S logon.

As a reminder, if you are an USA Swimming certified official, you need to complete the PMSL Officials Form and upload your "Official member card" AND "official history" using this link: https://forms.gle/Tipknhbcz5nRoHnK9
to be listed as a PMSL certified official.
For the official member card, go to your dashboard and click to view My member card. For the official history, go to Officials and choose my official history.

Referee/Starter/CJ Training The Referee/Starter/CJ course for PMSL will still be taught via Zoom and the test will still be administered separately online. Attendees MUST have worked as a Stroke & Turn official in PMSL for at least one year or be a USA-Swimming certified stroke & turn in good standing before attending.

The course will be held on the following dates:
Sunday, May 19th at 7 p.m. Link: us02web.zoom.us/j/87884495955?pwd=L1Q5am5hTHI1RXlUcEllNm1VQ3FZQT09

Please make plans to attend the courses you may need and please pass them along to other families on your team.
Participants must pre-register, must have their cameras on (unless allowed to turn off by the instructors during video presentations) and must answer at least 4/5 of the poll questions scattered throughout the presentation in order to get credit for attending the clinic.
Participants will then need to take and pass an online, open-book test (information on applying for the test will be presented during the clinic). We look forward to getting our families involved as officials!
Note: You must have been certified as a Stroke & Turn official for at least one year prior to attending the Referee/Starter course.
Hy-Tek Team Manager and Meet Manager Training A Team Manager clinic (learning how to set up the team's database, create line-ups for the meet and import results from the meet) and a Meet Manager clinic (learning how to create the meet for home meets, import entries, create programs, create lane timer sheets, score and export results) will be offered.
Any individual interested in the training must complete a training request form by May 17th and then the training will be coordinated with the registered group. Please use this link to request training: formsmarts.com/form/2cwe
Individuals wanting to attend the computer clinics must have the Team Manager and Meet Manager software operational on their computers prior to arriving for the clinic.
