Welcome to the 2026 IHST Season - A Message from Head Coach Jo

Hello Indian Head Swim Team families!

I hope everybody had a great Holiday weekend, even though it was a wet one! We kick things off on Tuesday, May 26th! Before I take care of some administrative items, I would like to introduce the coaching staff for the 2026 season.

Head Coach: Jo Proctor

Assistant Coaches: Mel Toney, Erin Sellers, Devontae Isreal, Kelly Walter, Matt Trollinger, and Audrey Donahue

For those that are new to the team, I am stepping in as head coach for the 2026 season. This is my 26th season with the team. I served as head coach until 2019 when I stepped down to be an assistant coach and a soccer mom. Coach Mel Toney took over as head coach in 2020 and recently just added a new baby boy to her family. She would like to step back this summer to enjoy being a mom and her growing family. She will be returning to the head coaching position next summer! Each one of our coaches has a history with IHST. All but one was a swimmer for the team. Coach Matt was not, however he has 3 children on the team and became a coach once he saw everything that we had to offer!

Just to clarify the practice schedule:

NEW to the team and returning swimmers between the ages of 5-11

Practice times: 5:30-6:30 OR 6:30-7:30

Days: 5/27, 5/29, 6/2, 6/4, 6/8, 6/10, 6/12, 6/16 & 6/18

Returning swimmers between the ages 12-18

Practice times: 5:30-6:30 OR 6:30-7:30

Days: 5/26, 5/28, 6/1, 6/3, 6/5, 6/9, 6/11, 6/15, 6/17 & 6/19

I understand that the split in age groups may make it difficult for some families, and I apologize. However we are well over 100 swimmers on the team and we have to consider safety of our athletes as well as opportunities for the athletes to get a full practice. If there are too many swimmers in a lane, it makes it difficult to get a good workout in. We thank you for your patience over the next few weeks. We are also asking that all new swimmers come to practice together to ease them into the routines, jargon, and overall feeling in the water. It can be overwhelming the first few times in the water and we don’t want anyone to feel that they are not able to understand what is going on or keep up. If we feel your athlete is ready to move into the age group practices, we will contact you directly.

Please make sure that your swimmer comes to practices prepared with goggles, cap (optional during practices – as long as athletes hair stays out of their faces) and a water bottle. Hydration is very important, even though we are in the water! Please make every effort to be on time for practice. It can make it difficult to fit people in lanes for a warm up when we are in the middle of a sprint set.

Looking forward to the 2026 Season!

Coach Jo
